My clothing advice is sometimes a little contradictory. I’m sitting here thinking of how much I really am off tight fit clothes as I wear some. I love New York City, and living here I am exposed to pretty much everything and it’s brutally honest. But I am kind of sick of walking down the street seeing these people wearing the tightest clothes that clearly they don’t need to be wearing. I mean just because you are wearing a size XS does not mean you are one. Looks like I am not alone as my favorite New York socialite, Iris Apfel who is an absolute boss said in an article,
“Now when I walk down Fifth Avenue in the summertime I just want to throw up. It seems that the fatter and uglier people are, the fewer clothes they wear. The shorts and flip-flops and tight jeans on butts that go from here to Poughkeepsie….I always say they should put people in jail for wearing clothes like that. Especially stretch jeans over size 10- they should be outlawed. Ten years ago people were starting to look like slobs in New York, now it’s an epidemic.”
Amen, Iris, Amen. It’s sadley true, and while I look at clothes from London and Paris, there is something so real about NYC you get the good, bad and the ugly, if you can’t find it here it does not exist.
So as I go through a mental scan of my closet every morning as I lay in bed, I think of how I really need to step up my Parisian game. Which is clothes that fit on the cusp of tight and baggy. I’ve never been into showing every curve I have – I have my moments but in general it’s just not my style. So when I come across a brand or line that is able to articulate my new York edginess without compromising what I really think is chic, I dig it.
I am obsessed with WOOD WOOD – a brand out of Copenhagen this Danish street influences label was originally founded by three designers who wanted to collab and now years later they are killing it. Designing and retail stores all over the world, and they continue to deliver a superior product.
