Capsule Curated: Nicola Fumo, Market Editor, Racked.com Selects

September 22, 2014 BY WE ARE THE MARKET

Nicola Fumo, Market Editor at the online shopping bible Racked stopped by Capsule New York last week and pulled her favorite pieces. In the collage below, her selections were remixed with elements by artist Kalen Hollomon who was Capsule’s featured artist for S/S 15.

Everything I gravitated towards plays on familiar shapes but with enough of a twist that they feel really fresh and exciting—which I think is a way to sum up Capsule itself, really. I saw so much navy at the show and got uncharacteristically excited by it (normally I'm a black-and-white girl, straight up). Never say never, I guess?

LBT-LBT's oversized plaid coat would make the perfect throw-on for the transition between serious winter and actual spring. I love how longer-length outerwear looks with flat shoes, so I picked this nude pair of slides from Wal & Pai, a made-in-LA line that's brand spanking new and has me really excited. I know they got picked up by Totokaelo in Seattle, but I can't wait to see what other stores they land in (and to buy a pair myself). The pointed toe really sets this pair apart and would make legs look way long.

Back up top, I chose Base Range's easy romper with a skinny stripe to clash with that big ol' plaid while still being in the same color family. It kind of looks like something a man would wear to the beach in the '20s, which is a plus in my book, at least in this instance.

I am fully embracing the bucket bag renaissance we're living in, and I love that Objects Without Meaning did this little one in a cork-like material—such a cool texture. I threw in translucent Ahlem frames to coordinate with the hue. After seasons of brightly-colored sunglasses and high-contrast tortoise frames, brown seems like a nice alternative, plus it'd be really flattering on a lot of complexions.

This open-work Brookes Boswell baseball hat is just springtime smarts: Let it breathe. Same goes for the Lady Grey choker—an unexpected glam element in an otherwise chill look that carries very little physical weight. Just roll up to brunch with this baby around your neck, and I bet your michelada will be on the house. Really, let's make a bet.
