The casual, weekend wardrobe has been through a lot of changes over the years. The (tired) Americana, born in the U.S.A., steel mill worker trend is approaching the end of its run, and we've enetered a new phase. It's really one outfit built the same way in different branded variations. It consists of a comfortable and well-fitting shirt, slim chinos, and running sneakers. How many pairs of flyknits did you buy in the new colorways? The menswear guys' Sportwear Uniform" is how we'll refer to it.

Casual shirts feel more personal with precise fits and lived-in fabrics, trousers and shorts are comfortable enough to wear to sleep, and those running shoes from your morning workout look even better with chinos than they do with gym shorts. The Sportwear Uniform can play both roles, casual and proper, depending on if you wear it with or without a blazer.

The footwear is the most exciting part of the Uniform since the tassel loafers and brogues are boxed up and pushed to the back of the closet. Running shoes and trainers are prevalent whether it be the J. Crew x New Balance collaboration sneakers or Air Max 1s. The footwear complements the outfit as opposed to matching it. The brighter, and more obscure the colorway, the better.

Ultimately, the Sportwear Uniform is an easy, comfortable, dynamic look that lets you make use of different elements of your closet. It's hyper-American because it foregoes any aspiration towards achieving a "look," without being plastered with Americana and heritage details. America: the style of not styling. What's your uniform?
