Since we know how much you guys love Music Mondays, we decided to take a break from our regularly scheduled music column this week to give you something a little special. We Are The Market has partnered with The Fader, one of our favorite music/fashion magazines, to present you with a hand-picked selection of their favorite MP3s from the past month. For the first installment of this column, The Fader's Style Team introduces us to the musical stylings of DJ MikeQ, Los Angeles-based sister duo Bleached and a remix of The Internet's "Cocaine" by Swedish imports Little Dragon. Be sure click the link above each selection to hear the full-stream. Enjoy!
MIKEQ just released an amazing new EP on Fade To Mind, the Los Angeles record label of Nguzunguzu and Kingdom thats become an influential source for boundary-breaking electronic music. MIKEQ skates the labels hardest edge on NuCunt, evoking New Yorks ballroom and vogue sounds with a lightning-speed snare drum. The vocal samples are so choppy they almost sound angry, until, that is, you realize that MIKEQ is just enjoying fanning the crowd with attitude and having himself a ball.
Bleached is a project from sisters Jessie and Jennifer Clavin and the band sounds like the most fun car ride you could ever possibly imagine on a traffic-less California freeway. The chug of their guitar and drum is all-forward momentum on Electric Chair, and their horror-movie indebted lyrics puts them in the lineage of The Ramones, The Cramps and even John Waters.
The Internet is the project of Syd the Kyd, a DJ and member of Tyler the Creators Odd Future crew. She has a nice, breathy voice, something like a modern-day Marilyn Monroe but instead of singing about diamonds, she sings about drugs. Swedish electronic band Little Dragon remixed her song Cocaine into something truly danceable.
