Tom & Hawk is a relatively new brand that was founded in Germany in 2011 by Annette and Susanne Wirz. The sisters balance each other out thanks to their individual strengths in textiles and production and the retail business. Susanne has been in the knitwear business for 6 years as a designer and product manager, and Annette worked in retail for several years and realized that there was a lack of exciting collections for men. Together, they created Tom & Hawk, an 80s inspired brand that explores old patterns from that decade and ethnic designs of several countries from around the world.
Tom & Hawk produces a vast menswear collection consisting of shirts and tees, cardigans and sweatshirts, pants and shorts, and neck ties and bow ties. Almost every piece of clothing is produced in Europe with a CMS Machine, that Susanne found, which is an old knitting machine that is capable of making many intricate designs.
For SS14, Tom & Hawk continues to experiment with old, ethnic patterns, but this time under the mantra, “Yesterday has gone, and color is the new black.” The brand shared these campaign photos that look like they have taken their direction for the season into a Mexican desert or Southern California. .
The full Tom & Hawk SS14 Collection will show again this Monday and Tuesday at Capsule New York.
