Baldwin brand owner and designer, Matt Baldwin has proved that he never stops learning. During his stay in Colorado, Baldwin developed a love for snowboarding and the active sports industry, which lead him to FIDM in Huntington Beach, California to study Apparel Manufacturing in order to pursue his dream of working in the active sports industry. After exploring the fashion industry extensively, Baldwin stuck to his Midwest roots and moved to Kansas City in 2003 to open a men’s and women’s clothing boutique. After learning the ins-and-outs of operating a fashion business he began his own fashion line, Baldwin Denim, in 2009.
Baldwin Denim is what you get when American selvage denim and premium Japanese denim clash. What began as a 70 piece jeans collection with 3 fits expanded exponentially in a matter of years. The brand was born from the demand of the menswear industry and has since become a full menswear and womenswear collection with high quality pieces and minimalist principles. If you’re a student of the game like Matt Baldwin, look no further for premium denim. All of your questions are answered in a pair of Baldwin jeans.
For SS14, Baldwin is going Monochromatic. “This season I pushed the denim into a simple strong presentation of dry, black, authentic washes,” Baldwin shared. “The collection really stands on its own in its monochromatic form. Tone on Tone was the straight forward styling direction, keeping true to the original integrity of the brand.” Baldwin introduces graphic tee prints in this collection, and as for the piece of the season to look out for, the brand’s signature knit wrap neck poncho still catches attention. Modern, minimal, and no gimmicks, Baldwin teaches new lessons every season. Pay attention and keep learning like Baldwin himself.
The full Baldwin SS14 Collection will be at Capsule New York this month and Capsule Vegas next month.
