Assembly New York was founded in 2008 by Greg Armas as a men’s and women’s boutique that housed covetable luxury and vintage goods. After a series of collaborations with designers that were sold in store and on the brand’s website, Armas began designing an in-house collection in 2009.
This “his and hers” collection that is hand sewn in New York City consists of fine fabrics like linen, cashmere, and leather, and are made for daily wear and tear. Durability and long-lasting qualities are exhibited in each piece that is designed with the intent to get better with age. Natural and historic fabrics and subtle details make up each garment that wearers always seem to form an attachment to.
Spring reminds Armas of nostalgia and his youth especially. For SS14, Armas channeled the BMX, surfing, and skating cultures of the 1980s. Logos and athletic colors are prominent in this collection, and is offset by banker-striped suiting of that decade dressed down to resemble the casual suiting styles of the era.
Armas’ favorite piece of the season is the Red Cotton Cargo Bomber jacket pictured below. Armas shared, “The Red Cotton Cargo Bomber with ribbed neck is a perfect shell for summer, light weight and relaxed with good lines and enough pockets for summers vices!” This piece will definitely make you a standout whether you’re walking to brunch, skateboarding through the city, or hitting the streets on your 10-speed.
The Assembly New York SS14 collection will be at Capsule New York this month.
