ANTHOM may have started life as an online retailer, but they've taken to brick and mortar quite nicely, as evidenced by their new Chelsea outpost. Open this month on 10th Avenue, the shop acts as ANTHOM's flagship location (they also have a store outside of DC). The building, stripped to its bones by ANTHOM, was originally an auto repair shop. It's an appropriate change for the westernmost reaches of the neighborhood, also home to Comme des Garcons, Steven Alan, and countless galleries and art spaces.
With its minimal design and stark white walls, ANTHOM itself resembles something of a gallery, fitting for its idiosyncratic mix of artsy under-the-radar and independent designers. And although the space makes an impression, the beauty is really in the brand mix: New Yorkers like Samantha Pleet and Dusen Dusen are merchandized alongside LA's Devon Pavlovitz and Drifter, Miista from London and It's Me by Dina Lynnyk out of the Ukraine.
ANTHOM is located at 197 10th Avenue. Open Monday to Saturday from 11am - 8pm;
Sunday from 11pm - 6pm. For more information, visit www.shopanthom.com.
