In 2000, Asos emerged on the scene e-retailer scene and has since become the UK’s largest online fashion and beauty site. Asos houses over 50,000 branded and own label products from womenswear, menswear, accessories, jewelry, beauty, and footwear. The cutting edge, award winning company has stayed ahead by being one of the first to launch a mobile store and app for the company, keeping customers abreast with what’s new and upcoming deals. Today, you can find Asos’ own label among brands like Dolce & Gabbana, Vivienne Westwood, LOVE Moschino, GANT Rugger, Penfield, and Gloverall.
We caught up with Asos Menswear Director, Stefan Pesticcio to talk about the future of Asos and SS14.
What do you expect to be a major trend and a must- have item for SS14?
I don’t see there being one major trend for SS14 but rather a continuation of what is happening right now. Streetwear is obviously a huge feature of Menswear at the moment with many street and sports brands being extremely relevant, this looks set to continue. Print and colour are also still key and it will be fascinating to see how this is interpreted by designers and brands alike.
A must have item for next season would be a great vacation shirt.
Which collections are you most looking forward to seeing and why?
From LC:M the usual suspects such as Burberry Prorsum and Margaret Howell provided their usual unique take on British menswear whilst some of the newer menswear design talent such as Agi & Sam and Christopher Shannon were both exciting and vibrant.
From a global point of view, Junya Watanabe would be the stand out for me.
How do you see men’s style evolving for next summer?
I still feel there will not be a huge difference from what is happening right now but rather subtle takes and advancements on key menswear trends that are relevant right now. The streetwear influence will continue to grow and evolve whilst tailoring will also remain important but perhaps with some subtle innovations.
Do you sel lanything in your store besides fashion? What’s hot now?
As well as fashion, ASOS now also stocks a wide variety of gifts. In addition to the usual offering of socks, underwear and wallets, there is now a selection of books and Lomography cameras with lots more additions to come.
What’s in store for your store? Do you have any news, or major plans you’d like to share with us?
The biggest focus here is now on our Chinese website launch in October. From a Menswear point of view we have just recently launched our second collaboration with PUMA.
