Menswear has been on the up and up for quite some time worldwide, and SOTO Berlin may be responsible for the boom in Germany. The menswear store, SOTO Berlin, was founded in Berlin’s Torstrasse in April 2010 by Philip Gaedicke, Omer Ben-Michael and David Fischer. These three men know the ins-and-outs of menswear and fashion industry as a whole and aim to fill a void for the Berlin man. SOTO Berlin houses brands- Mark McNairy, BLK DNM, Norse Projects, Acne, Kenzo, Thom Browne and more bringing a piece of fashion from the four corners of the world to share with the city of Berlin. Now with two locations, SOTO Berlin continues to be the one-stop shop for male customers. We had a moment to speak with co-founder, Philip Gaedicke about trends and summer fashion.
What do you expect to be a major trend or must- have item/classification for SS14?
For us it’s getting more and more basic. Wider cuts and comfort are important. No prints.
Which collections are you most looking forward to seeing and why?
I’m always looking forward to see the collections of Dries van Noten and Our Legacy as those two brands represent a timeless look for me in two different price segments.
How do you see men’s style evolving for next summer?
I think comfort plays an important role. Men look more and more into cuts and fabrics. They are more educated and so is there style. Toned down colors, streetwear essentials like sneakers and wide shorts mixed with classic basic like button down shirts and light-weight blazers.
Do you sellanything in your store besides fashion? What’s hot now?
Accessories like caps and especially our HighSnobiety x Marcelo Burlon iPhone cases are selling really good.
What’s in store for your store? Do you have any news, or major plans you’d like to share with us?
There’s always something in the pipeline. And most of it will never see the light of the day.
The Torstrasse SOTO Berlin location is open Monday through Friday from 12-8pm and Saturday from 11am-8pm.
