Words and Interview by Caterina Coccioli
PUNKT means “full stop” in German, while simultaneously reminding us of the word ‘punk’. With these two premises a new web magazine is born. PUNKT Magazine’s first issue was online last spring, and was created out of a collaboration of people, coming together from different cities to publish something beautiful.
I met Marcello Junior Dino, the Editor in Chief, to have a fresh look on his new project.
Caterina: How and when did the inspiration of founding an online magazine take shape?
Marcello: The idea for the project came to me on a January evening. I always knew I would found a magazine, but I didn’t think It would be before my 30s. At a certain point this dream grew up enough to become reality. When I realized I was ready, I wanted to work on it together with all the people that I appreciate professionally. One of the triggering events was the realization that there aren’t any magazine made in Italy that are only online. My aim was to create a product with the aesthetic of a paper magazine but the timing of the online, without being pretentious, but with a specific approach.
What was your main occupation before this adventure? What is your occupation today?
Before PUNKT I was doing exactly the same thing I am doing now: photographer and freelance fashion editor. For two years I worked in a Art direction and web strategy agency, Braga + Federico from which I owe many of the things that I learned and use today.
How have you built up your team?
The team is quite small; it’s composed by an editorial office, without which I wouldn’t be able to put together this magazine, and a team of freelance collaborators. We receive a lot of submissions and we also do a lot of research. There are a lot of people I ‘d love to work with.
And finally some short Q&A to give an idea of the leading mood of the project…
Punkt is … A BELOVED SON
Punkt will never be … PRETENTIOUS
Punkt loves … YOUNG REBELS
Punkt hates … EXCLAMATION MARKS
Punkt believes in … THE RIGHT CLICK
Punkt wishes … (himself) A LONG LIFE OF SUCCESS
Punkt supports … TALENTED PEOPLE
As the conclusive part of the PUNKT Manifesto says:
“This is PUNKT, a fashion magazine focused on nice things and interesting noises. This is a different point of view. This is the new Übermensch and it’s not pretending to be your best friend.”
