Panel Discussion: The Correlation Between Fashion and Culture

November 03, 2011 BY CAPSULESNEWS

A sizable group of industry professionals gathered in the screening room of the Tribeca Grand Hotel last night to hear special guests Joseph Altuzarra, David Armstrong, Simon Collins, Jenne Lombardo and Pierre Rougier share their insights on topics ranging from the role of technology within the fashion industry to the impact of celebrity "designers". Organized by Round Table Creative Media Group and Lookbooks.com, the panel discussion sparked an open and frank conversation between the industry heavyweights as they all weighed in with their valuable perspectives. Speaking on the subject of fashion's so-called "digital age", Jenne Lombardo, Global Fashion Director of W Hotels and former director and curator of Milk Studios, acknowledges that the status quo has certainly seen a dramatic shift. "What's interesting about this new generation of designers is they have direct access to their customer," she said. ""What used to be private is now personal. The editor is now the buyer and the buyer is becoming the editor." Addressing the highly debatable topic of fast fashion, Pierre Rougier, founder of high-end public relations firm PR Consulting, admitted that its not such a bad thing after all. "It's fantastic that you can make [fashion] accessible." With many of the panelists having years of experience under their belts, it was refreshing to hear each of their unique points-of-view.
