One of the biggest stories in menswear this year broke just before the window on 2010 closed. Multi-CFDA nominated designer Michael Bastian has officially parted ways with Brunello Cucinelli, his founding partner. This move means a lot of things for the future of Michael Bastian, not limited to, taking the F/W 2011 season off to get production in order. The shift in production is already underway with Michael having scouted factories in Italy this December. Arguably the biggest news out of all of this is an anticipated significant drop in retail prices. By eliminating his licensing agreement with Cucinelli, Bastian ultimately hopes to widen the net of his luxury brand. Finally flying solo, 2011 and 2012 look to be both telling and banner years for the entire Michael Bastian operation.
