We fall head over heels for the pieces each and every season. SS14 is particularly spectacular with it’s light and natural color palate, Sandra shows us the summer pieces we’ve been dreaming of. Read all about the process of inspiration that brought her to Nanushka’s SS14 collection, along with her favorite drink, the trend she wants to get rid of and what she does when she wakes up in the morning.
We Are The Market: What prompted you to start designing?
Sandra Sandor: My mother was in the industry and I grew up in surrounded by and loving clothing and dressing up. After high school I went to the London College of Fashion and for me there was no other option. My first collection was SS06.
Talk a little bit about the inspiration behind the SS14 collection
For me, inspiration is never just one thing, it comes through in a theme and a deeper aspect. Sometimes through stories and fables, mythological symbolism. Last season I was in Paris and saw the works for Paul Jacoulet, a french artist who’s pieces surrounded tribal ethnical power in Micronesia. The color theme from my collection comes from his paintings and wood prints. I love the focus on the non-material. I always work in contrasts. I was also inspired by the love story of Orpheus, it is always seen through different lenses and perspectives and I love that it is a symbol of soul searching and finding. You will see the story portrayed through sharp lines and geometric shapes while the colors–earth tones, pastels and natural shades–reflect the inspiration the art gave me.
