Previously only an online marketplace, owner Kelly Jones opened up her first brick-and-mortar for Little Paper Planes two short months ago on Valencia St. The store carries an array of artists and designer goods– and will be the home of many a pop-up events. We caught up with Kelly to get the scoop and were stoked to hear she is doing an event with one of our very own (capsule) designers this weekend. Invite below!
What’s the concept of Little Paper Planes?
Gallery meets shop meets living room
Describe Little Paper Planes in 5 words or less:
Building connections and conversations between artists, collectors and designers. (more than 5 words, sorry)
Where did the name come from?
There isn’t a big story around it, back in the summer of 2004 I thought it would be fun to have an online store with my friends and I’s work in it to make some extra money. I was going through a bunch of random names and words and somehow “Little Paper Planes” just stuck and here we are 9 years later.
Who’s shopping at the store?
50% are tourists and the rest are people in the neighborhood and people who are specifically coming to the shop.
I can’t say I have a favorite designer, since I love everything in the shop! Currently I am loving the pieces by Willow Knows, ANNYA and Ilana Kohn.
Pieces you are excited about in store:
Two small weavings by Erin Gilkes, a Cat Ring by GiantLion, Drop Cloth Dress by Ermie and Moon Mugs by Small Spells.
Thanks, Kelly. Photos by Julia Szendrei.
If you’re in the area tomorrow be sure to stop by the Ilana Kohn trunk show at Little Paper Planes!!
