Life's A Beach at NIKBEN Swedish swimwear

June 04, 2015 BY WATM STAFF

The SS16 season is about to kick off, and swimwear is expected to be a hot classification. Introducing NIKBEN, the Swedish swimwear label that conveys not only a pattern, but also a statement or an unforeseen twist.

The brand offers classic fits and whimsical patterns including flamingoes, popsicles and polka dots, and each pair comes in a specially designed box that doubles as a backgammon game.

Meet designers Nicklas Abrahamsson (Nik) and Benjamin Lega (Ben) making their Capsule debuts at Capsule Paris, June 26-28.

Where do you live?

We both live in Sweden, but Nik is based in Stockholm and Ben in Gothenburg.

How did you get started?

Benjamin started his career at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London, infused with endless amounts of inspiration and creativity. He has since worked within advertising in the UK and Sweden.

Nicklas on the other hand studied Economics resulting in five years in the banking & finance industry. He then chose to follow his passion…

Tell us about Nikben – what is the inspiration behind your prints?

Our main inspiration source is the pastel-coloured beach life of 50’s and 60’s in places like Nice, St. Tropez or the Hamptons. We always want an element of surprise with unexpected twists and quirky statements in our designs. Our goal is to spread happiness!

Who designs them?

Both gather inspiration - Ben then designs the final prints.

Where is the collection made?

We start off with the design work in Sweden; the swim trunks are then hand-manufactured in small batches in Asia.

What is a key item for SS16?

This season we have collaborated with the Swedish artist and designer David Andreas. He has created a classic beach pattern with palm trees, waves and sharks; integrated with the message ”Life’s a beach. Don’t ruin it”. A vacation-worthy design that makes a tropical style statement.
