You might remember Fay and Rachelle from our "Meet The Designers" piece last fall, the two started Aussie brand Kahlo about three years ago and their lines have been total successes ever since. The pieces are simple and beautifully designed with a focus on minimalism and quality. The SS14 collection is filled with gorgeous pieces accented by leather and simple yet striking lines. We had the chance to interview the amazing duo behind the brand about their SS14 collection, morning routines, inspiration and the closets they are lusting over. Kahlo will be showing at Capsule New York Women's Sept 15-17. We Are The Market: What prompted you two to start KAHLO?
Kahlo: After meeting through mutual friends at Fashion week 3 years ago, we soon realised that we both shared a passion for design. We discovered that we both embodied the same values and aspirations and were both striving for the same outcome: to create an inspiring brand that prides itself on beautiful, simple, quality garments that are made and received with love. We wanted a name that perfectly represented our vision; a name that would resonate in 20 years time and after a lot of thought we chose KAHLO.
Talk a little bit about the inspiration behind the SS14 collection
We drew inspiration for our SS14 collection from photographer Francesca Woodman. Her images exude an emotional depth created by the harsh contrasting black and white tones and the rich textures juxtaposed against the soft, flocculent blurred outline of the subjects. The same suggestions can be seen in our latest collection to create an ambience of obscure simplicity.
