Thierry Lasry is bringing sunglasses to the next level with his SS14 collection. The pieces that we have seen are impressively modern while clearly pulling inspiration from past styles. We completely understand why Thierry would, in a few words, call the collection futuristic vintage. With a consistent, incredible attention to both tech and comfort, its no wonder this brand is already a cult phenom. Stop by the Capsule New York Womens show to see the full collection and check out our interview with Theirry, below to hear about inspiration, brands he's admiring and more.
We Are The Market: What prompted you to start designing?
Thierry Lasry: Mainly DNA. I have the creative gene.
Talk a little bit about the inspiration behind the SS14 collection
Let's say we're going to another level in terms of technicity and comfort in general and specially in a few styles that have been developed around the concept of the way diamonds are cut
Describe the line in one or two words... Futuristic vintage.
What are some brands you're admiring right now? Rick Owens for being a major brand but remaining independent. Supreme for the marketing. Fendi for the notion of excellence in term of quality of the products they develop.
What is one trend you can't wait to see gone? The 5 days beard on guys Should I say I have one since something like 13 years but just can't stand anymore to see 9 guys of 10 w/ a beard
When you wake up in the morning the first thing you do is... I turn off the alarms of my Galaxy S4 and then Blackberry that are both supposed to wake me up every morning.
What's always in your bag? My Comme Des Garçons wallet.
Who inspires you to do what you do? Nobody in particular inspires me. I create my own inspirations based on my esthetic.
If you weren't designing, what would you be doing? Would have been using the other side of my brain and would have been working in finance as a trader.
Your drink of choice? Veuve Cliquot Rosé.
Favorite place for lunch? Gemma. (Bowery Hotel)
If you could raid any fictional or real person's closet, whose would it be? Probably my brother as we have the same taste in term of style so his closet would be a perfect complement to mine ;-)
