Details Magazine and the Council of Fashion Designers of America joined forces once again for another spring menswear initiative. The follow up to their successful pocket square program of last year is a duffle bag design project. Twenty CFDA designers were given an Army/Navy duffel bag to trick out and put their design own spin.
Each bag exhibited the respective designers' aesthetic. CFDA Menswear of the Year nominee, Michael Bastian and Ovadia and Sons sewn on multiple patches. Swarovski Menswear Designer of the Year winner, Public School, Isaora, and Tommy Hilfiger went with a color change, Marc Jacobs changed colors and pinned a number of buttons onto the bag while Robert Geller sewn black and white, abstract photos onto his bag.
A few designers altered the straps and pockets of the bags. Swarovski Menswear Designer of the Year nominee, Todd Snyder, Billy Reid, Simon Spurr, and Rag & Bone added leather detailing and straps to their bags, and Richard Chai, Alejandro Ingelmo, and Trovata opted for a canvas strap with a different color and detail.
Unis stayed true to the Army/Navy duffle bag's distressed and aged, "beat-up" look, Duckie Brown's bag went through the most drastic overhaul leaving the straps as the only original parts of the bag, Yigal Azrouel and Gilded Age took art supplies to their bags, LuisFern5 added a pop of color and printed on the bag much like Mark McNairy who printed a phrase that screams McNasty.
Last night was one hell of a rooftop party, and the Summer hasn't even begun! Partygoers were all smiles, blissful from the live tunes from band, Branches, and the beautiful the Mondrian SoHo penthouse view. The Details crew, CFDA members, and eBay representatives were in attendance as well as a few of the designers tapped to design for the project- Todd Snyder, Simon Spurr, Maxwell Osbourne of Public School, Richard Chai, Michael Bastian, and Robert Geller.
Every bag will be up for auction on eBay this Monday (June 10th) at 8am Pacific Standard Time and the proceeds will go to the CFDA. Check out all of the bags up for auction on our Tumblr page today.
