First introduced by Levi Strauss, during the Gold Rush in the 1850s, denim has become a stalwart of global style. Originally intended as a durable means of protection for the working class, denim has taken on a life of its own since Strauss imported the fabric from France. Denim tells a story- it isn’t so much about the fabric itself, but how it wears and the people who wear it. It represents where we’ve been and the places we’ve seen; a traveling companion if you will.
Today, denim is worked into a myriad of garments and accessories: sneakers, hats, dresses, coats, and even bathing suits? Odd, but true. Our obsession with denim knows no bounds. Whether you prefer your true blues doubled up a la Canadian tux, distressed, frayed, bleached, washed, baggy, or cropped- this year-round staple bridges the gap between high-end fashion and the streets.
While we patiently wait for SS 16 collections to hit the racks, we've rounded up a few of our favorite pieces from Capsule Show New York.
