Chris and Kirk Bray founded Billykirk in 1999 and have had a stranglehold on the accessories game ever since. The formerly Los Angeles based brand excels at leather and canvas craftsmanship, and has built a reputation for long lasting bags that are made in the USA. Whenever they’re not manufacturing in house, they work with their trusty Amish friends in Pennsylvania for additional leather work. Billykirk always delivers understated and minimally designed bags that transcend trends, last forever in quality and design, and will be in your family for generations.
At Capsule New York, Billykirk held down the back wall and drew attention from all buyers and visitors. Before the show, we caught up with Cory Heenan, the brand’s wholesaler as the crew prepped for the show. They were putting the finishing touches on SS14 before their move to Basketball City for Capsule New York, and of course we asked about the collection.
“Our SS14 collection represents a change in approach for Billykirk,” Heenan shared. ”This season we decided to offer 3 groups each focusing on a different category; Classic, Limited and Sport. The Classic group focuses on our staple silhouettes that have proven the test of time, made in 4 distinct wax canvas colors and are available year round. The Limited offering in this combination will only be available in this selling season and is made with down proof ticking stripe and US made Horween waxed flesh leather, accented with brass hardware and featuring a hand stitched luggage tag and US made solid brass hammer and maul key chain.”
While watching the guys sew a few card cases and leather business cards, we couldn’t help but notice a royal blue duffle from the sport group that Heenan mentioned. Heenan explained, “The Sport group is made from US sourced Cordura Nylon and is inspired by sport and camping gear from the 70′s and 80′s. It also features vegetable tanned leather trim from US hides.”
