Second/Layer is one of the most important emerging American brands on the menswear scene right now. Known for well crafted, and careful considered menswear basics with a skate/street edge, Second/Layer has caught the eye of the CFDA, and will be showing their AW16 collection at NYFW:M as well as in the New America section of Capsule Paris and Capsule New York.

(c)Tell us about your collection
SL: Our collection is known for elevated essentials and tailored dailywear for men. We like to interpret this idea of elevated essential and tailored dailywear through the use of smart, luxurious fabrications, generously proportioned silhouettes, and tamed tailoring. But what brings everything together is our translation of luxury sportswear styled to a tune all our own. The authenticity of our inspiration paints a vivid picture of the culture we represent.

(c)What is your AW16 collection all about?
SL: Our AW16 collection is a continuation of the literal translation of the culture we represent. It’s full of precise pieces that every man should own in his closet. Its less about a certain thing and more about a nod to the cultural reference we are trying to bring to the forefront of fashion.

(c)What are some key items from the collection that you’re excited about?
SL: We are excited to show our graphic language for the season. Its a part of the collection that we feel really strongly about considering in the last couple of seasons we have been less graphic driven. The coats are fuckin amazing! The proportions are obviously more generous but not over done and too editorial. All of the trousers are amazing. I can see every girlfriend stealing these from your closet. The suited fabrications and the flow of the trousers make them the perfect pair to a basic tee-shirt or raglan sleeve sweatshirt. It’s something about trousers that just make your whole kit. Last but not least I am most excited about how every fabric makes you want to sleep in a pile of your clothes. Everything feels so amazing. I am going to live in the unstructured suits, T-shirts, and Denim.

(c) What does it mean to be an American designer in Paris?
SL: It means we are lucky to do this for a living that it takes us half way around the world to show what we are doing in LA. It means we have to represent to the fullest. Respectfully of course.
