A Dose of (Capsule) Paris: Libertine-Libertine

June 11, 2010 BY CAPSULESNEWS

IMG_4631.JPG Since 2009 Libertine Libertine has been creating a range of unique basics for men and women. We spoke to the designers as they get ready to come to Paris to debut SS2011.

We have worked with a handful of inspiration sources that in their own ways represent a huge part of the company's foundation. It is a beautiful mix of 70's California, post-Vietnam war and our strong naval traditions influenced by our roots in skate culture and love for Paris. People like Hunter S Thompson, & Kerouac are always hunting our office and their significant lifestyles as hobo and writer are great inspirations for the brand's soul. Music is a huge part of us as well and the soundtrack of the spring has without doubt been Brian Jonestown Massacre and Pantherman. It is still all about dynamics and movement for us and I feel this is perfectly mirrored in the collection. Its casual and wearable with a strong focus on high quality and durable fabrics.

More after the jump...

What do you expect will be some key items in the collection?

We have a really strong shirt programme again this season and I am sure that our new take on the camouflage will cause a bit of mayhem. Apart from that I am really fond of our chinos and jackets.

Do you have any other news you'd like to share?

Some of our great projects will surface this season - a graphics project with the French master Francois Morell and his &Co company plus a very exciting project with the artist Pantherman whose debut album we will release with the collection.

It is a fantastic atmospheric album in family with the likes of Boards of Canada, Aphex Twin etc. It will be featured on wooden usb key done by Danish earphone cornisseurs AiAiAi and will feature a complete little universe with some trailers on the web. I am confident this is just the beginning of a long series of great works from his side and it will be great hearing people's response

What are your plans for the summer?

This summer will yet again be spent on work and extensive traveling - just the way we like it.

We see the SS11 collection as being the complete & fully developed vision of the brand. We just turned 1 year a few weeks ago and it is very satisfying to see the hard work paying off. We have built up such a great platform and versatile distribution so we are very excited to start the season and meet everybody again.
