Today the men’s fashion calendar officially kicks off as London Collections: Men launches us into a month-long fashion frenzy. While the industry has been musing over the future of men’s shows with designers shaking up the schedule (Saint Laurent the latest to depart), not to mention the contagious ideals of a genderless utopia sweeping the landscape from Vetements, one could easily assume the end of menswear as we know it. But if the extra buzz around the upcoming season is anything to go by, menswear is definitely having its moment (with sales figures to match). So as buyers prepare to be visually stirred by an onslaught of product, there’s really only one question on their minds: what are the must-have items? Here are our five to watch.-- Katie Sturch

1. The Utility Jacket

Military looks endure as utility items are reworked with a cleaner sensibility. Expect this functional jacket to update with multiple pockets, elevated fabrics and varying weights for trans-seasonal appeal.

Having made its mark last summer within budding 50s looks, it’s set to gain traction once again as classic zip-through, boxy fits and cleaned-up, lightweight renditions contend sales of the bomber and trucker.

Pioneered by the likes of Prada and street brand Gosha Rubchinskiy, the new track top takes lead from retro racing styles, working well as a layering piece for sartorial sports looks.

As volume drives men’s trousers, this more commercial flat-front chino update comes through in (optional) cropped lengths, key to the continuing 90s skate and surf looks.

Bermuda shorts update summer’s classic short suits fusing relaxed 50s looks or subtle 90s board short references for the younger customer; a commercial hit for those shying away from the newer short tailored shorts.
