Brett Fahlgren knows how to stay busy. Despite providing creative direction and retail branding for a few clients, editing for the Style Ledger, and working with GQ as their Executive Stylist Publishing, he manages to find time to design a collection of ties and ski inspired clothing under the brand name, Fahlgren.
Fahlgren's collection is a nod to 20th century American history and heritage. At one time, a man's necktie was his badge. It was a display of his alma mater, favorite sport, or what club he belonged to. Ski patterns, tartans, and crests on ties each told a different story about the man and Fahlgren pays homage to all of them. His ties are available throughout New York City, Miami, Austin and Tokyo.
"For Spring 14 I want to continue the All-American, collegiate look," said Fahlgren. The collection has been updated in fresh summer colors that pop. "My ties are meant to be easily wearable... You'll see references to surfing, lawn games, summer sports and plenty of lighter fabrics, like cotton." Fahlgren does not cut corners in the manufacturing process. He understands the importance of manufacturing and fine quality, which is why each tie is handmade in Brooklyn and why he sources silk and cotton from England and Italy. Fahlgren added, "The cut is a bit slimmer so I would never describe them as purely classic."
The most notable design for SS14 is the new sailing inspired stripe. "It is very unique and looks beautiful when worn. In addition, I'm working on a series of incredibly soft cotton plaids you'd normally equate with summer button down shirts."
Fahlgren is keeping the ties under wraps until the Capsule show this month, but he did share the sailing inspired fabric and stripe he will be using (pictured below). Undoubtedly all-American and modern, Brett Fahlgren continues to redefine the American classic and the American work ethic.
