SS14 Preview: Bill Amberg

July 16, 2013 BY OBI ANYANWU

London accessories brand, Bill Amberg was destined for success long before the brand was a forethought. Amberg grew up in a family of design, which influenced him at such a young age. His mother, an architect, and his cousin, Penny, put him on to leather working from his youth to his graduate days, which spurned his collection of bags that debuted in 1985. Since then, he has worked with Paul Smith, Donna Karan, and Dunhill while providing the very best in quality leather bags via his own collection, cementing his place as one of the top bag designers to date.

Bill Amberg takes to the streets for SS14. He takes his fascination with streetwear and combines it with traditional craftsmanship for the collection. The bags are practical and durable works of art consisting of nylon and canvas fabrics mixed with cotton and nylon webbings. The colors range from green to light brown to navy and charcoal contrasted by subtle and strong leathers. The brand's 'Hunter' range has grown with their Rucksacks and Truffles and for SS14 they are joined by new pieces including two sizes in messenger bags, a tote, and a briefcase.

The key piece for the SS14 collection is the Milan Rucksack in Nylon. The navy nylon bag has chocolate leather accents and handles topped off with a bright red flap closure on the bag's front pocket. The brand's logo is embossed in gold and looks like an autograph from the man himself. This is undoubtedly a special piece that will get you stopped on the street for photos.

The Milan Rucksack and the rest of the Bill Amberg SS14 Collection will be at Capsule New York this Monday and Tuesday.
