Seattle based designer, Deborah Roberts, explores the unfamiliar familiar for Silvae's new collection, Synesthesia, for SS17.
Through wrapping, layering and fabrication, the collection aims to bring a feeling of non-synchronization, encouraging one to look at common things in a new way and enhancing perception of the familiar. The layers and asymmetry in the line represent the lens through which one views the world, and are symbolized in the Aqua Flora print created with artist Olivia Knapp that speaks to Robert’s inspiration from the Pacific Northwest.
Recently featured in Refinery 29 as one of the “up and coming designers that are about to be it,” each collection aims to create new classics that are both timeless and artful, appealing to the modern woman who look for unique and functional pieces. The collections are produced domestically in New York, and Silvae is proud to be a supporter of The Wilderness Society, working to protect our green spaces through wild land designation, renewable energy, and connecting the public to wild places.
Roberts splits her time between New York and Seattle where she is opening a designer-driven retail community RIZOM (pronounced rahy-ZOHM) with jewelry designer Faris Du Graf that will feature women’s fashion, art, and printed matter.
