Stephanie Beard launched her line, Esby, in February 2014. Prior to striking out on her own, Stephanie worked as a menswear designer in NYC for various companies. After nearly 10 years there, she decided to start a line of long-lasting, high-quality womenswear. And then last year, after a successful summer-long pop-up shop with Billy Reid in Austin, she opened Esby’s flagship store with an attached studio space in Austin.
“Just a few streets west and nestled between South 1st Street and Congress, you’ll stumble upon our studio and storefront,” said Stephanie. Located in an old auto body shop, they gave the space a little TLC and a lot of paint, and opened the retail shop in October 2015. “Our neighborhood is called Bouldin Creek and is adjacent to the very popular Travis Heights hood, which is home to South Congress Avenue and all its shops and restaurants.”
Since opening the shop, Stephanie and her growing team have gone on to start their own leather bag collection and even bring in an assortment of other brands. Among their full collection of Esby, you’ll find Krewe du Optic sunglasses, Na Nin candles and fragrances, and jewelry from Brooklyn designer Blanca Monros Gomez.

Their favorite places in the neighborhood:
We owe finding our space to frequenting this minimal coffee shop. A fellow designer was grabbing a coffee when we mentioned we were on the hunt. Turned out the auto body shop across the street was getting a facelift. Now, we start a lot of our mornings by fueling up on their cold brew and breakfast tacos.

We feel so lucky to be a stone's throw away from this amazing restaurant. Anytime a lunch meeting is in order we know just the spot.

This beauty of a hotel opened just over a year ago and we’ve been frequenting the lobby bar ever since. The hotel is so pretty and the lobby has many great nooks where we can relax with our friends. Bonus: women’s boutique SUNROOM is also located just outside the hotel lobby.

An oldie but a goodie. Always a go-to for us when the weather is nice. The courtyard is gorgeous and tucked away just off of bustling South Congress Avenue. Make sure to try a tall refreshing glass of the rosso amaro (delicious grapefruit and prosecco over ice).
