Rodd & Gunn, the New Zealand based brand historically known for their impeccably stylish outdoor-inspired gear has evolved over the past 10 years into a more modern version of itself. What started in 1946 as a collection of pieces that reflect the great New Zealand outdoors has become an iconic Australian and New Zealand brand. The goal behind these slightly preppy yet delicately crafted pieces is "to create clothes that draw the best from nature in its purest state. Hence the focus on using linens, cottons, wools and leathers that are soft, practical, superbly textured and durable."
Boasting beautiful italian fabrics (their linen shirt is a must-have in this summer heatwave) picked personally by creative director, John Prikryil, Rodd & Gunn has made a name for themselves down under (with their loyal English Pointer as a mascot), and has slowly been infiltrating the Americas and Europe.
If you haven't checked them out and you're in New York, now is your chance.
Rothmans, just north-east of Union Square, known for their sporadic pop-up shops is hosting Rodd & Gunn from July 15th to August 15th. We stopped by the opening party yesterday to peep the collection and were greeted by a slew of happy English Pointer Pups being toted around by models who were dressed from head-to-toe in the brand.
The pieces we saw were beautifully made, the patterns were fun and the future is bright for seasons to come. John Prikryil explained that Rodd & Gunn was once a hunting and fishing brand, and he's excited about the homage he made to the brand's past for AW13. Lucky for us, we may get a chance to see those pieces at the tail end of the pop-up. Regardless, the summer-ready short-sleeved button downs caught our attention in their cool patterns and a certain linen jacket with a sewn in pocket square was calling our name.
