Following up our line-up of interviews with killer fashion-progressive boutiques throughout the world, Joseph Quartana from Seven New York graciously let us know what's on his mind about street fashion right now, recession shopping habits, and upcoming buzz for Autumn/Winter 09'. Check it out.
WATM: How's business?
JQ: Not bad but not great. We're off about 15% vs. last year.
Are people still shopping during the recession? Absolutely! Thankfully!
What are they buying?
All sorts of things...we're selling our high ticket items as well as ever. What all the pieces have in common is that they are either very special and unique, or they have good value to them.
What are some best selling brands and/or styles in your store right now? We are doing really well with Preen, Henrik Vibskov, Juun J, Damir Doma, and a newcomer named Horace from London...
What are you excited about for Fall 09? I like all the dark modernism happening, particularly what Rad Hourani and Haider Ackermann are up to. I loved Preen as well. And Bernhard Willhelm and Jean Charles De Castelbajac did some VERY fun pieces for next season which I'm sure will sell very well. What's a popular street style in your area-- what are people wearing now? I've noticed a trending away from denim for dress pants instead.
Is there anything new going on at your store? We're planning an event with the shoe designer Nicholas Kirkwood for September....we did a big one for Pleasure Principle recently during last fashion week. Otherwise I'm just focusing on putting together Six Scents Series Two, my charity perfume project.
