PARIS S/S11 - ADAM KIMMEL

June 24, 2010 BY CAPSULESNEWS

look25 If there's one thing Adam Kimmel knows how to do, it's put on a show that will get people talking. And talk they did after today's South Central Los Angeles-inspired presentation in Paris. "For my 2011 Spring Summer collection, I decided to go Doggy style," the designer said, citing Snoop Dogg as a hero and driving pop cultural force. You can see the legendary West Coast rapper's influence in the Panama hats, suede wingtips and peak notch lapels on jackets draped over the shoulder -- not to mention the low-rider on hydraulics that acted as a centerpiece today and appears again on a t-shirt from the range. In addition to some humorous, kitschy pieces like a cashmere football jersey, the collection makes good use of Kimmel's penchant for surprising, luxe details, including custom, cotton-silk bandana prints on the lining of jackets, cuffs of both pants and shirts, and the underside of upturned collars. The NYC-based designer is also doing his part to keep men dressed in pinstripes, presented here in various colors and proportions. And if you haven't yet succumbed to the onslaught of varsity jackets over the past few seasons, you're in luck: Kimmel has designed some of the finest contrast-sleeve coats and satin bombers we've ever seen. "It's Compton via Italy," Kimmel says. Preach! (Steve Dool)
