Shooting for edgy mags like U+Mag, Vice and i-D, photographer Melvin Israel creates some of the most compelling images in French fashion editorial today. A Parisian native, Israel shares his favorite go-to spots in Paris at the moment. --- Gino Delmas
When I’m looking for a different breakfast I go to Lafayette Cafe, at the top of Galeries Lafayette. It's traditional, but the viennoiseries are cooked up there and the view is stunning.
For dinner, I like La Petite Rose des Sables, a very tight place, max fifteen plates, because it reminds me the cook of my « pied-noir » grandmother and food is generous. The owner and her Breton husband are just too sweet.
For drinks before or after nightclub, I often go Aux Bons Amis in Belleville - everybody calls it Chez Kiki. You can get brochettes or couscous all night long, drink a tea at the counter with elders and if you climb the stairs you are surrounded by young people jumping on techno or hip-hop. I like these two parallel worlds sharing the same place.
When it’s time to go out, I often go to the Starnight, one of the most eclectic night place in Paris right now. You can find hipsters, a few stars and normal people, too. And generally if you like to hear hip-hop in the club (as in my case) you won’t be disappointed with that one!
