From the moment his first look hit the runway, it was clear what Michael Bastian's inspiration was for his label's Spring/Summer 2012 collection. Sporting retro glasses, cuffed jeans, white socks, black penny loafers and that trademark pompadour hairstyle, the handsome model was a spitting image of James Dean. When asked to describe the collection in further detail, Bastian told reporters, "I had this idea: What if James Dean came back and picked up where he left off? How would he dress?" And pick up is exactly what Bastian did; by transporting the '50s film star into the present day, the designer left us with several looks that could have read: "Dean at the Gym," "Dean at the Beach," "Dean Going to Work". One outfit in particular, a chambray suit paired with a plaid shirt and coordinating pocket square, proves that the iconic actor would have been just as stylish at a summer garden party in the Hamptons as he was in a leather jacket and white tee. As time went on, things began to get a little sportier as Bastian threw in some signature pieces like thigh-grazing shorts and striped shirts. Nevertheless, it's collections such as this one that always leave us wanting more. -Adrian Brinkley
