Katie Bannell is a Parisian bike messenger, with a background in photography and design. While working as a messenger in Paris, she found the typical messenger bags ugly and masculine, and wanted to create something for her active lifestyle that was both durable and practical, as well as chic and luxurious.
“I found backpacks and cycling accessories was something I enjoyed most designing as I could transfer them directly to my job and therefore look good while doing it," she says.
The result is New Pharaoh-- a collection of neoprene bags, with cycling specific details such as a front pocket that’s accessible while cycling; straps made out of a breathable mesh material and wider for comfort. The use of neoprene makes these bags unique – the material is water resistant, absorbs shock, is scratch resistant, is ultra durable and lightweight. The matte look of neoprene gives the bags a fashion forward edge.
"The brand also has been conceived from a being the minority - a girl in a mostly guy messenger world - yet believing there was demand for cycling accessories that could be unisex and chic and luxurious as well as hardy and functional,” Bannell explains.
