Romance gone wrong is the underlying theme for Lazy Oaf’s quirky AW16 designs. “Molly Ringwald in "Pretty in Pink" is totally vining this collection,” smiles designer Gemma Shiel, who also cites ‘”80s rom coms, and vintage valentines with a sinister twist,” as additional inspirations. With that in mind, a pastel pink parka with embroidered ‘waste of time’ heart banner on the back is an ironic key item for AW16, as well as a navy oversized sailor bibbed dress with ‘Introvert’ embroidery.
Based in London, Lazy Oaf designs clothing and accessories for men and women, and was founded by Shiel in 2001. This year to celebrate 15 years in business, the company is planning a big birthday party and a secret anniversary collection to launch in October.
Lazy Oaf collections are notoriously colorful and cartoon-focused with an element of weirdness. “Our design philosophy is not trend-driven but focused on our unique directional vision referencing streetwear and youth nostalgia. We like to design clothes that will make you smile,” Shiel explains.
