Capsule Women's Preview: Cleobella

February 04, 2016 BY CAPSULE

Cleobella was born of a fortuitous one year adventure taken by its founders, husband and wife team Angela and Jim O'Brien as they searched for waves all around the world. What they found instead was a place so full of love, tradition, and simplicity that it inspired them to start a clothing brand that would be more than just a clothing brand, just like Bali is more than just an island. Cleobella remains inspired by the patterns and people the O'Briens encountered in Bali, and the result is a line of clothing and accessories perfect for the free-spirited bohemian goddess who loves life and adventure.

All items are made with quality leathers, hand tooling, recycled metals, and limited edition textiles sourced locally in Bali, and the company works closely with local artisans to not only create beautiful clothing and accessories, but to impact the community in a positive way.

We interviewed Angela O'Brien about the brand:

(capsule): What are some unusual or unexpected placed you draw inspiration from?

OB: I know it sounds cliche, but our collections are always inspired by our travels. When I'm traveling, I find that I begin to see the world differently and find inspiration in the tiniest things. It could be a texture from a time-weathered building, the colors of a new landscape at sunset, or rich textiles and artisan goods I come across in markets. Our Fall '16 collection was inspired by our recent travels in Cappadocia, Turkey.

(capsule): If you had to pick a song that best encapsulates your Fall 2016 collection, what song would it be and why?

OB: "Riders on the Storm" by The Doors!!

(capsule): What kind of girl wears Cleobella?

OB: She's free-spirited, a dreamer with ambition, a lover of life, nature, and people. She's just as happy camping on a secluded beach somewhere as she is staying in a five star hotel. She sees the world through compassionate eyes and radiates love.

(capsule) What person, living, dead, or imaginary, would you love to see in your clothing?

OB: If we could travel back to the 1970's, we'd love to get some Cleobella on Janis Joplin, Bianca Jagger, and Diane Von Furstenberg, and then all go disco-dancing together at Studio 54 :)
