When you hang with Hillary Taymour, you can’t help but get sucked into her constant buzz of creative energy and excitement. The California transplant has been called the coolest girl in Williamsburg, where she designs her collection, Collina Strada, and lives with her blue Merle Pomeranian PowWow, @superpowwow who is probably the coolest dog in Williamsburg, having attended an overwhelming number of fashion events, and photo shoots.
Hillary launched Collina Strada in 2008 as a boutique brand of small leather goods and bags punctuated with architectural details, and a downtown sense of badass. Several seasons ago she expanded to a full collection of ready to wear, with leather jumpsuits and tank tops at the core of the feminine and luxuriously modern collection. She's been invited to show at Made Fashion Week in New York, and her collection is sold in an enviable list of top tier boutiques worldwide. Last year, Hilary began applying her architectural approach to hard goods, and has introduced a limited collection of furniture, Social + Studies which is now sold in select boutiques.
We caught up with Hillary earlier today..
(C): Tell us about your neighborhood—what’s happening outside your window today?
HT: I live in a small Dominican pocket in South Williamsburg just past the BQE and across the way from Corrado. Outside my window there are 4 newborn feral kittens that Powwow and I so desperately want to adopt! We watch them play every morning. It’s so cute!
(C): You started as a leather goods brand, and now expanded to rtw and now furniture. Why did you expand from fashion to furniture?
HT: Interiors have always been a huge source of my inspiration. Being in the fashion industry for over 6 years now, I just really needed an outlet to be creative at a slower pace. Furniture lasts forever, whereas with fashion everyone is waiting to see what you do next season.
(C): Where are you selling the furniture? Is it mostly fashion stores?
HT: The furniture sits at Love Adorned LA, Assembly LA, One of a Few, the Primary Essentials, Goldyn, and Shop Anomie. Also coming soon to a pop up at Soho house Miami. It’s mostly fashion retailers who are looking at the home goods naturally since those are where all my connections are. It’s interesting to see their reaction to it.
(C): We love shopping with you in Paris -- which stores or brands were your favorites on your most recent trip?
Haha and I love shopping with you! I always visit Merci (cliche i know but gotta upgrade the notebook.) Thanx God I’m a VIP -- they always have some good vintage YSL. This season I stopped by the new Celine store, it was beautiful!
(C): Do you have any special launches or news you’d like to share?
HT: I just did a lower price point collection for Forever 21 that is soon to hit their website. Collina by Collina Strada mini backpacks that will retail for less than $200!
(C): What are some key items from your SS16 collection?
HT: The Mechanic Jacket is one of my favorite pieces. The Gauley Pant and the El Morro long dress are all doing very well too! (all pictured above)
