The photos of Malik Sidibe have served as fashion inspiration for plenty of designers in our market for years now. Sidibe, who comes from Bamako, in Africa, will be awarded a lifetime achievement award at the upcoming Venice Bienniale. Sidibe’s photos of black-and-white studies of popular culture in the 1960s in Bamako are riveting. I love looking at Sidibe’s energetic shots of young Africans posing, dancing and just having fun. And their clothes are right on trend. African patterns meet Western trend forward silhouettes—tight jeans, plimsolls, skinny ties. The photos are from another era and a far away land but look just right today. Pick up his book on Amazon. More pics after the jump.
