As you know, we are only a mere three (3!) days away from the explosion of style and craft that is Capsule Paris SS15. We will have a lot of fantastic brands in the house and so to get everyone jazzed we are featuring a few of our favorite designers in the days leading up to the show.

This week's featured brand is Gertrud & George, a forward-thinking luxury bag brand with exceptionally excellent leather goods.

What drove you to start producing bags?

I had been living out of a suitcase, working as a tailor and slaving away as a recurring leather goods designer for household names in New York, London, Paris, Genève and Tokyo when I realized, in the mid-00's, that I would never find the ultimate travel bag if I did not set out to produce it myself. And since I am not one to "half-do" things, I put tailoring on indefinite hiatus to do just that.

What do you look for in an incredible bag?

Genuine full hides, ECO-certified processes, intelligent design inside and out.

Quality of craftsmanship and Origin Vs. Price-tag.

I am weary of labels. Until someone comes up with "footmade" everything is basically "handmade".

What’s the weirdest thing you have packed in one of your bags?

Too early to tell, or not weird enough just yet.

What’s the most challenging part of what you do? And the most rewarding?

The most challenging after long periods of R&D, especially when one sets the bar as high as we do, is to be content with any outcome. This said, there is no better reward than that split second when you know you've done right by you, when you know you can stand by your product with your head held high.

Aside from “do great work” do you have any words of wisdom for young bucks who want to break into the fashion biz?

To wear your heart on your sleeve is not a very good plan. You should wear it inside, where it functions best. Internships are not meant to last a lifetime. Do not sell yourself short. Do not ever work for free.

If you have any talent avoid Design Schools and opt for an MBA instead.

Be your own boss, or the best possible link in a chain.
