Objects Without Meaning has been on our radar for several seasons now, thanks to its thoughtful design and range of styles that focus on directional silhouettes and great fabrics. The result is a collection that’s both wearable and fashion forward, without being overtly sexy. Meet them at Capsule New York.
Adventure is the underlying theme behind the SS15 rtw, with a cool trench as a key item. We had a chance to talk to designer Alexandra Michelle about her SS15 collection.
We love the name! What do you mean by Objects without Meaning? There is no concept. It's the antithesis of trying-too-hard fashion.
Tell us a bit of background about your brand: The collection was conceived in 2011 by Australian – by way of NYC and now LA – designer Alexandra Michelle – partnering with a tight-knit handful of artists and boutique mills. All manufacturing is done within our own Los Angeles-based facility, where we are immersed in every aspect of our brand from design to production to culture.
What are your inspirations for SS15? We really touched on the idea of our girl as a traveller going on an adventure. The prints used in this season were reminiscent of a natural camouflage, still keeping with the chic, effortless style that has defined the brand's identity.
What are some key items for SS15? Our 'boy zip jean' (a staple for our girl), the 'Amber' dress in our new updated print for spring, the 'Madra' trench, and our new jewelry range!
