The Red Bull Music Academy Festival has landed in New York City, and it’s packing some major punches with a month long lineup of colorful performances, features, workshops and events. Like Jolly Old Saint Nicholas, the Red Bull Music Academy is traveling the world delivering gifts of music and fun to all. Below is the DAEP | NYC guide to the must see events happening in the next four weeks. From the brilliant D’Angelo on May 21st, to the incomparable Hudson Mohawke performing live with friends on May 28th, need I say more? This event is like The Avengers of DJs, instead of Nick Fury from Shield, The Red Bull Music Academy brought them all together in Williamsburg, BK. For only $10, you get to hear some of the most creative DJ’s across the planet mix it up. Each DJ brings a unique power to every set. Music lovers, you do not want to miss this event.

The Red Bull Music Academy is paying tribute to the legendary New York dance club DJ, Larry Levan. Many refer to his sets as “Saturday Mass,” so let the service begin. There’s even a local initiative to rename King Street, Larry Levan Way. What better way to honor Larry Levan, than a good, old-fashion New York street party? So join some special guests, bring out the children and get ready to dance in the streets.

D’Angelo represents a time in music that produced amazing artists such as Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu, and Maxwell to name a few. D’Angelo sits down with filmmaker, Nelson George, for a lecture session at Brooklyn Museum. He rarely interviews and has had quite a journey in music with many ups and downs, this shall be nothing shy of epic.

The only reason I can run a mile in eight minutes is because of Hudson Mohawke. The Scottish electronic producer/DJ’s music is next level. He is really that good; so good that Kanye West scooped him up and signed him to GOOD Music. He is also on Warp Records and has some new music dropping this year. So run down to Webster Hall to see Hudson Mohawke live with friends on May 28th.
